splish, splash.....

Friday night is family swim and the University and because I am a student, the kids and I get to swim for free! We all know that there is no better price than free so the kids and I go swimming on Fridays.

My kids really love being in the water and it is a GREAT way to burn some extra energy! The kids think it is pretty cool that their Aunt Jean used to be a life guard at this very pool!

Tonight we were the only ones in the pool for awhile. It was really nice.
As you can see from the expression on Bizzy's face, it's always hard to leave.

Random Pictures and an update

Here are some pictures of the kids in their Easter clothes. All of my kids a "cheese balls" so to get a serious picture of them is next to impossible.

Alex....showin' how cool he is!

and what can ya say...this is Bizzy. Things are in full swing at our house. Bizzy is still in dance, Alex and Andrea are taking piano and all three have started soccer. Finals week is next week for me and then I will start summer classes immediately. We are LOVING the weather and can't wait to go camping again. The kids are "training" for the wildcat run in May so we are going to the track 2 or 3 times a week and running a mile. Hopefully I can get some good action shots at the kids games and post them soon.

Easter

Easter came quick this year so I wasn't very well prepared. We dyed our eggs Saturday afternoon and the kids really enjoyed that.
Easter morning the kids had a great time looking for eggs and finding baskets.
Instead of a basket this year Alex got a backpack from the Easter bunny and some "bunny-money"
This is our traditional Eater bunny cake. My mom made this cake when I was growing up and now my kids and I make it. The girls don't like to eat it because it has "rice" on it but everyone else really enjoys it. We had a really nice Easter dinner with some good friends and enjoyed a quiet day.

YUM!

My grandma made the very best homemade tortillas in the world. For years I have wanted to get the recipe from one of my Tia's but just haven't. A few weeks ago Jaime and I were talking about recipes and SHE had grandmas tortilla recipe. I decided to give it a try this morning and they turned out GREAT! It's a lot of work to roll them out and get them thin enough but they were worth it! I put peanut butter and jelly on them for my kids(which is the way I ate them when I was growing up) and they really liked them!

What a grill

The tooth fairy has been really busy at our house. Sunday morning Andrea lost her top tooth. It has been loose for a REALLY long time so it wasn't a big deal when it finally just fell out. Well this evening, ANOTHER top tooth came out. This one was a little more traumatic because it had only been loose for like 2 months. I can't blame her for not wanting to pull her teeth out though. I HATED doing it when I was a child so she comes by it honestly.

Here is a picture of her new smile! I think it's cute.

WAY TO GO GRIZZ!

This year Alex played on the Grizz basketball team in the city league. There are several teams and I think our team placed 2nd. The rec. program started giving a new award this year for sportsmanship and his team won it. They only picked one team from each league so the boys were really excited! The prize was to go to the Energy solutions arena in Salt Lake and meet a couple of Jazz players.
We all headed down there for a really great evening. The kids got a chance to go onto the court and shoot free throws.
They gave all the kids tickets as they came in the door and gave away door prizes throughout the night. Andrea, Alex and Bizzy all won a prize!
Carlos Boozer and Mehmet Okur were the players that came to talk with the kids. They talked to the kids about sportsmanship and gave them some good advice. It was a lot of fun!
Here is Alex with a few of his teammates. He is at the age now where it is not so cool to sit with mom anymore plus they got third row seats!

SUPRISE!

Last week I was out of school for the week and Jaime told me she was going to drive out here with her daughter to spend some time with the me and the kids. I was so surprised when not only Jaime and Ashtyn showed up but she brought my nephew Austin (who is the same age as Alex), my dad and my Uncle Rudy. The girls had a great time playing with their cousin.
Alex loved having some guys around! We took a trip to SLC to go to Temple Square. Here is everyone in front of the conference center. It was a fun surprise and we had a fun few days!

There's no place like....Charlie's?

The last few days we have enjoyed having my sister, her daughter my nephew, my Uncle and my dad here from Oregon. We have done a lot of fun things and taken a lot of pictures. This post is just for our sister Jean. After we had dinner tonight we decided to go get some shakes. Charlie's makes the best shakes in the whole world! My sister Jean and her husband used to live here and they would agree. They loved Charlies and would agree that it would not be a trip to Logan without going there.
Here is Jaime with shakes for everyone. Eating shakes made us think of Jean so we decided to go by her old house.
Here is the whole crew in front of your old house Jean! If you look closely, you can see the roof of the church they built in your back yard!

Snow, snow GO AWAY.......

This is what we woke up to today! I am probably the biggest cheerleader for snow but at some point, you have to say "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!" The last few days had been nice ( I even wore sandals yesterday and washed my car) so I put the trampoline back up. Today we will be shoveling a foot of snow off of it.
Each of the kids has a shovel so before they went to school, the shoveled the walk. I was working in Alex's class this morning and he came up to me and said, "I know why you had three kids mom....it was so we could shovel snow huh!" I told him he was right.;-}

Sunday breakfasts

We have a started a tradition on Sunday mornings(only because we have late church) of making pancakes. Each week we try adding something new to the batter. We have done plain, chocolate chips, blueberries and then strawberries (yuk!) Anyways, Alex LOVES to order crepes when we go to the Village Inn to eat so I thought it would be fun to give them a try at home.
They turned out pretty good. The kids had fun trying them and they were pretty easy to make.

Arrow of Light

Last night was the Blue and Gold banquet(the birthday celebration for scouts). They feed you dinner and hand-out awards to the boys.

Andrea and Bizzy enjoying the sloppy joes
Alex got his Arrow of light last night which is a big deal for cub scouts. It is the only badge that he will be able to wear on his boy scout uniform. He is now an 11 year old scout. He has had a lot of fun along the way making friends and learning some really great skills.

These fine people have been Alex's den leaders for the last year and he has really enjoyed their friendship. They have really gone above and beyond in working with the boys. As a single mom, there are many areas that I try hard but feel I fall short. I am grateful for good people like these guys who can have such a positive influence on my son! THANKS Chelsie, Sam and Allie!

For my kids

So I recently showed my kids the blog and they LOVED it! We have looked at all the posts several times and had some good laughs. I decided ...
